Tokyo 2016 launches “Uniting Our Worlds” campaign theme with promise to help major cities tackle shared issues of our time.
4 August 2008--Tokyo 2016 today unveiled “Uniting Our Worlds” as its Bid theme, officially kicking off its international communications campaign in Beijing.
The new slogan promotes Tokyo’s desire to use the Olympic and Paralympic Games to meet the great challenges it faces as a major city, such as urbanisation, an ageing population and how best to care for the environment.
In turn, the 2016 Games will provide best practice solutions that allow Tokyo to unite with cities across the world to help tackle these shared issues of our time.
Dr Ichiro Kono, CEO and Chairman of Tokyo 2016, said:
We all live in one world, yet at Tokyo 2016 we recognise that we each also belong to our own unique worlds. In the true spirit of Olympism, Tokyo 2016 aims to unite the best of all these to help provide answers to the biggest problems we face as a global society.
“We will provide tangible solutions to the 21st Century challenges of urbanisation, mature economies, ageing populations and how to safeguard and improve the environment. The United Nations predicts that the number of people living in cities will double in the next four decades. Only by hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo in 2016 can we showcase solutions to help every city in every continent, as a legacy from the Olympic Movement.”
